| Gabriella and Bernie hunting squirrels from Gramma's bed |
The day began with Gabriella serenading Gramma K. with "Here Comes Peter Cottontail" from her bunkbed. Luckily, Gramma is a morning person, too. Around 9:00, we meandered over to Grandma and Grandpa's camper for breakfast (it was Gabriella's second breakfast - she can't wait that long to eat in the morning.) Mom and I took the kids to the playground while it was mostly in the shade. Those slides get HOT when the sun is beating down!
As we were leaving the playground, we noticed Yogi the bear walking by. We followed him to a tractor and wagon and discovered we were just in time for the sing-along "Heyride." Of course, we had to go. It was actually kind of fun in an extremely corny way. Gabriella sat right across from Yogi and we all knew most of the songs. Gabriella even taught our activity leader-person a song that she didn't know :-)

Don spent the day trying to work in our bedroom (also with a fan blowing directly on him.) Bob spent the day trying to repair some wires for our kitchen slide-out that had apparently been rubbing on our tires. When we put the slide out the day before, my mom heard a pop and saw a spark - always a bad sign. It also blew the breaker for the slide, so we were without a microwave, but the fridge was still able to operate on propane until it was repaired today. We are so lucky to have Bob on this trip with us, as he seems to have the knowledge and experience to fix just about anything. Plus, Gavin got to be his assistant. He loved the time with Grandpa and learned some things along the way. Unfortunately, during these repairs, the power had to be shut off, so no a/c or fans. Ugh.
During a break from the repairs, Gavin was coming inside from helping Grandpa, and he managed to shut his thumb in the hinge side of the camper door. OUCH! It took a while, but he finally felt better after time spent on the couch with a Scooby-Doo movie and an ice pack (good thing I put a lot of ice packs in the freezer!) It helped that Gramma K. and Grandpa returned from another trip to Walmart with a new little set of Legos and a grab bar to put on the camper door to prevent future injuries. He was even able to help Grandpa finish up the repairs.
By early evening, I was pretty much out of commission and lying in the bunkhouse under the air conditioner. Don removed the cover so that the cold air would just dump out on me. In the meantime, everyone else had dinner at Grandma and Grandpa's. Grandpa, Grandma P., and Don took the kids to play mini-golf in the campground. It had been too hot during the day to even consider it. From what I heard, they all had a fine time and are all expert golfers. They also stopped in the camp store for some ice cream treats.
This wasn't my favorite place to stay (and not just because of the heat.) Organized activities are great and all, but the Jellystone was a bit much for me. Maybe it was because it was "Christmas in July" week and there were Christmas carols blaring from loudspeakers across the street from us. Now, I love Christmas and all the trappings that go along with it, but not in July. Really. But I am glad that the kids got to meet Yogi and they had fun in the pool and on the golf course. And I am glad to be moving on to the next place. Don't worry, the next day did get better and my next post will be more cheerful :-) In the meantime, Merry Christmas!
and a happy new year!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to imagine what it must be like inside the Yogi Bear outfit in that kind of heat! Instant weight loss program! I hope things cool down both inside the RV's and outside. We are enjoying a nice break in the heat/humidity around here. Fa la la la la...la la la la!

I too "experienced" a Jellystone campground in Massachusetts. Cabin with no a/c and a fan luckily my mother told me to bring for what little of a window there was. After walking to bathrooms and showers we were drenched in sweat on the way back!! Kids have fond memories...your blog took me back!!!
