The Best-Laid Plans

Don and I were actually supposed to make this trip ten years ago. Back then, we were younger more adventurous and planned to tent our way across the country with no set plans or itinerary. We had the new sleeping bags and hiking boots all ready to go, but shortly before the day of departure, I ended up needing to have my gall bladder removed. I no longer felt quite so adventurous or up to climbing mountains or sleeping on the ground, so we settled for a weekend in Vermont with friends.
This time around, things are a bit different. With Don's need to work along the way, we need to have definite plans and assurances that he has internet access (someone has to finance this trip!) and we're not exactly "roughing it" anymore. By a long shot. We have had two doctor's visits in the last two days with the kids, but now all seems to be well and we are clear for take-off. I am mostly all packed except for my own clothes and the groceries that we will pick up tomorrow. Hopefully, the truck will hold up under the strain of pulling all the extra weight packed in the trailer (have I mentioned that I tend to overpack?)
This time on Saturday, we should have camp all set up in Ohio! It may not sound like the most exciting first stop, but it is on the way and we have a great weekend planned. Stay tuned for details of the first leg of our journey. I will try to be honest (without seriously offending any of my family members,) so be prepared to read of the best of times along with the worst.

  2. Have a great trip! My husband and I went on a two month cross country trip in 2011 and had a fantastic time. We have such a beautiful country to explore. Your mom told me about your blog, so I hope I can get into it. I tried just before this comment, but I don't think it got through. I am a sad excuse for a computer geek. So, safe trip and Happy Trails to everyone. Pat B.
